The first lesson of the swim team season: no matter how much Jesse begs, I shouldn’t have bought the breakfast burrito.
I also completely whiffed video on his 25 freestyle.

Shivering on the pool deck before the 25-yard freestyle.
He found out the hard way that you start on the buzzer, not the get-ready whistle. He came in third of six at 48:53.
I did get a backstroke video:
Results TK. I’m betting on a DQ.
The night before, we had the swim team kickoff pizza part and water gun fight, where he ran wild until almost 9. Also, he got his “Big Fin” buddy assignment. (Hopefully Jesse will remember to cheer for him next time!)
Jesse played a song for his after school program’s talent school.
Jesse aced his second competition, Blades of Summers at Prince William Ice Center — he was the only boy skating a Basic 2 program, so he came in first!
[Updated video]
Jesse had his first ice skating competition Saturday morning, and skated in the first event of the day (there were only two skaters in the Tot 4 Male event, so he was the second skater of the competition).
He came in first, with a 5.0, despite a fall during his program. He’s very proud!
We had a lovely party the day before jesse’s birthday in Fairfax at a rec center. The Great Zucchini again came (he was at the last party, too). Aunt Heather and Uncle Matthew came to town, and dozens of friends helped us celebrate. Photos by Nor Bouyakoub Photography!

Jesse attended his friend’s bat mitzvah service and brought Sammy — we took photos during the luncheon (kiddush)

Sammy watched Jesse practice a Hanukkah song he has been working on.

Jesse spent the week at winter break camp! Sammy came along in Jesse’s backpack. While at camp this week, Jesse went on field trips to Dave & Buster’s, Climb Zone and Launch Trampoline Park, and had STEAM Day complete with a magic show and Cupcake Wars on Dec. 25. Today, Jesse took Sammy to Shabbat Extravaganza, where the campers will have a party and make Challah!
