When I was in preschool, Miss Mary would chant with us each day, “Good morning, merry sunshine./We’re glad that you are here/To work and play together/On this new day of the year.” (Miss Mary’s album of inspirational music used to live in Grandpa Chuck’s vinyl collection years ago.)
So here’s Jesse greeting the day:
That’s how he rolls
Here’s Jesse “rolling over” (since he’s sort of leading with his head, it’s probably not intentional) for the fourth time in about three minutes.
He was so fast, I didn’t even reach for my phone until the third.
A day at the doctor(s)
Jesse had his one-month checkup, and, as I expected, he now weighs more than 10 pounds: 10 lbs., 2.5 oz.
He slept pretty much the whole time, except for showing off his baby pushups for Dr. Parente and screaming during his HepB shot.
After a quick trip home, we were off to the vet; Popo has a nasty cut on his face, courtesy of Thunder.
Here’s Jesse sleeping peacefully while Popo cringes in the crate:
Popo still weighs more than Jesse, but not much more — Popo’s only 10 lbs., 10 oz.
Goodbye, tiny clothes
Jesse goes to the doctor tomorrow, and I’m betting he clocks in at more than 10 pounds. He eats like Kobiashi, after all.
All that growing means he’s outgrowing clothes at an alarming rate. That’s OK, though — Betsy and Cathy graciously accepted my offer of hand-me-downs, like these cute blue and green Ninja jammies.
We’ll be holding on to one outfit, though: his little brown and blue monkey outfit. It was picked out by his Cousin Elaina and Aunt Amy long before Jesse was born.
It was what he wore on the way home from the hospital.
He also wore it a few days later for his bris (sans pants).
But it hasn’t fit for about two weeks. I washed it a final time and folded it away in his closet (I think there’s still a stain or two, but that’s OK).
Someday I’ll show it to him, and we’ll both marvel over how small he once was.
It’s a hard life
Amazon & Peapod = truly awesome
Answering the door is a lot easier than trying to get out the door with a baby, I’ve decided.
That’s why I love Amazon — we’ve had piles of baby gifts delivered, plus diapers, wipes, formula, baby shampoo and anything else that we suddenly realized we needed, like more pacifiers. (Bonus: All those deliveries helped produce moving boxes for Betsy & Tim.)
I’ve also recently started using Peapod for grocery delivery, and I love that 1. The ice cream arrives colder than if I were bringing it home from the store in the car; and 2. Heavy items like cases of water are carried into the house.
I feel like Sandra Bullock in The Net.
Frequent shopper
Jesse is certainly getting around. Here he is preparing to brave his first trip to Costco with Mom & Dad. In recent days he’s also been to Target, Buy Buy Baby, Trader Joe’s, the entire length of Potomac Mills (over two trips), Whole Foods and the Galleria at Tysons. Such trips are made easier by his penchant for zonking out in the carseat — and we don’t mean riding in the car. He literally falls asleep shortly after we buckle him into the carseat in the house.
(By the way, the best changing areas he’s tested so far were at Buy Buy Baby and the restroom near Ann Taylor at Potomac Mills.)
Tummy time, too
Naptime
Jesse and I need to get matching pajamas. We’ll have to do that on our next shopping trip.
